Becoming a Licensed Massage Therapist in Illinois begins with the desire to help others feel better! That drive is at the core of the best bodyworkers in practice today.
Most states in the country require either Licensure or Certification for a massage therapist to perform bodywork and receive compensation. Illinois requires licensure. The Massage Licensing Act became effective on June 1, 2003. This act details the rules for obtaining and maintaining a massage license.
Qualifications for a license include a minimum of 600 clock hours of supervised classroom and hands-on instruction with a minimum 70% passing grade in each subject.
Each applicant must also pass a national licensing exam with either the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB) or the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB).
Once your education and licensing exam are completed, you can send in your application to the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulations (IDFPR), and submit your fingerprints to complete a background check.
Then, you just wait for IDFPR to process your application!
So, if you have the desire and drive, find the Massage School that's best for you.
